Dr. Wasim Zakaria

Curriculum Vitae:

Dr. Wasim Zakaria is a physician holding a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine, with a specialized interest in Rheumatology. He is a researcher and university lecturer at several Syrian universities, as well as a leader in medical education. He holds a Professional Diploma in Medical Education from an accredited institution and currently serves as Head of the Examination Committee for Internal Medicine at the Syrian Board, Head of the Rheumatology Department at Aleppo University Hospital, and a member of the Syrian Medical Syndicate, where he is responsible for the Office of Scientific Relations.

Dr. Zakaria has extensive experience spanning more than a decade in clinical practice, medical education, and health program management in conflict settings. He previously served as a Board Member of the Syrian Commission for Medical Specialties in Northwest Syria, and as Head of the Continuing Medical Education and Scientific Research Department, where he contributed significantly to the development of medical training programs, organization of continuing medical education activities, supervision of examinations, and promotion of scientific research within medical and educational institutions.

He has worked as an internist and clinical supervisor for resident physicians in several teaching hospitals in northern Syria. In addition, he has participated in training healthcare professionals through training centers affiliated with health directorates and medical organizations. Dr. Zakaria has also held senior administrative positions, including hospital general management and medical program management in several humanitarian organizations.

His scientific and research interests focus on rheumatologic diseases, chronic illnesses, undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, healthcare workers’ health, and health systems in conflict-affected areas. He has published more than ten research papers in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals and has presented research papers and scientific posters at local, regional, and international conferences. He has also chaired scientific sessions and served as a peer reviewer for several scientific journals and conferences.

Dr. Zakaria has participated as a speaker in numerous scientific conferences and has made notable contributions to medical capacity building, the development of training programs, and the enhancement of academic leadership among physicians. Additionally, he has authored medical textbooks on emergency case management, trauma care, and advanced cardiac life support, which are widely used as training references for healthcare professionals.
