The Doctorate Program in International Criminal Justice adopts an advanced research-based system (Research-Based), which focuses on producing original legal knowledge through specialized scientific research, research seminars, and academic supervision, without relying on the traditional coursework system.

1. Admission and Preliminary Proposal Stage (Admission Requirement)
The academic process begins prior to official enrollment at the university and includes:

  •  Submission by the researcher of a preliminary Research Proposal in the field of international criminal justice that reflects the research problem and its significance.
  • Discussion of the proposal before the departmental Academic Admissions Committee to demonstrate the originality of the idea and its feasibility as a doctoral dissertation.
  • Upon acceptance, the student is officially enrolled and assigned an appropriate academic supervisor according to the precise specialization.

2. Qualification and Advanced Seminars Stage (12 Credit Hours)
Following admission, the student enrolls in the first year and is required to fulfill the following:

  • Fulfill the language requirement by submitting a foreign language proficiency certificate.
  • Attend seminars and specialized research workshops.
  • Participate in intensive workshops on comparative legal analysis methodologies to develop research tools.

 3. Comprehensive Examination and Final Proposal Approval Stage (6 Credit Hours)
Based on the knowledge and linguistic background acquired by the researcher during the first year:

  • Pass the comprehensive examination (written and oral).
  • Develop the initial proposal into a "final and expanded research plan" and defend it before the departmental committee.
  • Receive official approval of the dissertation title and register it with the Faculty Council.

 4. Scientific Publication and Academic Participation Stage (6 Credit Hours)
This stage is concerned with ensuring research quality and compliance with international standards:

  • Write a rigorous scientific paper derived from the dissertation, and complete the requirements for peer-review and publication in internationally ranked journals.
  • Represent the faculty by presenting a working paper or research abstract at a specialized international academic conference.

 5. Dissertation Preparation and Defense Stage (30 Credit Hours)
This is the major and final stage of the program and includes:

  • Full-time dedication to completing the dissertation chapters and in-depth legal analysis under individual supervisory collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Submission of the dissertation to a scientific plagiarism detection and academic integrity report.
  • Formation of a three-member public defense committee to evaluate the dissertation and approve it for the award of the degree.

 :Graduation Requirements
The following are required for the award of the doctoral degree:

  1. Successful completion of all program requirements.
  2. Successful completion of the comprehensive examination.
  3. Approval of the final research plan.
  4. Publication, or acceptance for publication, of at least one scientific research paper derived from the dissertation, in a peer-reviewed journal ranked according to the university's standards.
  5. Successful completion of the public dissertation defense.

:Admission and Registration Requirements
Admission to the program requires that applicants fulfill the following conditions:

  1. Hold a Master's degree in Law, or its equivalent, from recognized universities.
  2. Applicants holding degrees in Political Science and International Relations may be accepted provided they successfully complete remedial courses as determined by the relevant department.
  3. Fulfill the English language proficiency requirement by achieving a minimum score on the (IELTS) or (TOEFL IBT) examination.
  4. Submit a preliminary Research Proposal in the field of international criminal justice that demonstrates the originality of the idea, its objectives, and methodology.

    To be awarded the doctoral degree, candidates must publish, or have accepted for publication, at least one scientific research paper derived from the dissertation, in a peer-reviewed journal ranked within approved international indexing databases, or in peer-reviewed journals approved according to the university's classification.
    The program adheres to standards of academic integrity, research ethics, and guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in legal and research studies.

:Duration of Study

  • Minimum duration for degree completion: Three years.
  • Maximum duration for degree completion: Five years.
  • Extension may be granted in accordance with the university's applicable regulations and bylaws.
